M3AAWG Email and Bots Metrics Reports

M3AAWG reports have become a vital industry resource for understanding the extent of abusive email and tracking other hazardous activity.  Each report looks at the current quarter and, as available, also contains a 12-month history.

Bot Metrics Report

The first M3AAWG Bot Metrics Report was issued in September 2014 and it is the first industry report of its type with data provided directly by service operators and ISPs. The report details the number of subscribers identified as having a system infected by malware, also known a “bot,” and the percentage of those subscribers notified of the problem. It is the first cooperative effort by network service providers to quantify the extent of malicious bots infecting their subscribers.

Email Metrics Reports

The M3AAWG Email Metrics Program: The Network Operators’ Perspective is compiled quarterly from aggregated data provided directly from M3AAWG member ISPs, email providers and network operators. It is a voluntary program and each report covers at least 100 million mailboxes. Current reports include data for almost 500 million mailboxes. The complete archive of reports is provided for those who want to investigate trends since the reports were initiated with data from the last quarter of 2005.
