Alex Bobotek, M3AAWG Co-Chairman, Mobile
(AT&T Lead of Messaging Anti-Abuse Architecture and Strategy)


Alex Bobotek is Co-Chairman for Mobile at the Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG) and previously was co-chair of the organization’s wireless special interest group, the M3AAWG WSIG, which is specifically focused on fighting abuse of mobile services.  Professionally, Mr. Bobotek is AT&T Labs’ Lead of Messaging Anti-Abuse Architecture and Strategy.  He has over 16 years experience in mobile data services, and has led and participated in several industry-wide mobile data initiatives and standards groups in other industry organizations. 

 

Chris Boyer, M3AAWG Public Policy Chair
(AT&T Services, Assistant Vice President, Public Policy)

As Assistant Vice President, Public Policy at AT&T Services Inc., Chris Boyer is responsible for developing and coordinating AT&T's public policy positions on issues impacting emerging services and technology.  Mr. Boyer participates in legislative, regulatory and policy development proceedings covering a wide range of issues including cloud computing, cybersecurity, content and video regulation, and Internet technology issues. 

He also serves as AT&T's representative and President of the Board of the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Internet Security and Privacy Advisory Board (ISPAB) and serves as co-chair of the public policy committee at the Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG). 

Mr. Boyer previously served as AT&T's policy liaison to the high tech community in Silicon Valley and as policy lead for AT&T's U-verse initiative.  He joined AT&T in 1993 and has held positions in AT&T’s global public policy, network planning and engineering, product marketing and network services departments including extensive experience working on AT&T's broadband, VoIP and IPTV initiatives. 

 

Ram Mohan, M3AAWG Member
(Afilias Limited, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer)

As Afilias Limited Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Ram Mohan oversees key strategic, management and technology choices for the company in support of its various lines of business.  Mr. Mohan has led the strategic growth of the company in registry services and security as well as new product sectors such as managed DNS, product traceability, RFID/Auto-ID and internationalized domain names (IDNs). 

He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in a non-voting capacity. Mr. Mohan is a pioneer in both Internet security and internationalization. He is a founding member of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC), which consists of Internet pioneers and technical experts who provide guidelines and advice on matters concerning Internet safeguards. He serves on the steering committee of the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) and is on the Advisory Committee of the Internet Society (ISOC).  

Mr. Mohan led both the GNSO Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) Working Group and the ICANN Board IDN Working Group; he is the co-founder of the Arabic Script IDN Working Group (ASIWG). He advises several governments on Internet security and Internet globalization issues as part of the Afilias' ccTLD portfolio. Mr. Mohan has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mangalore, an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management from Bharathidasan University, and is the author of several patents.

 

Michael O’Reirdan, M3AAWG Co-Chairman, Malware
(Comcast, Engineering Fellow)

Michael O’Reirdan is currently the M3AAWG Co-Chairman for Malware and is serving his fourth term as chairman of the Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG), the industry’s largest global trade association that works against bots, spam, viruses, denial-of-service attacks and other online exploitation.  Mr. O’Reirdan also chaired the U.S. FCC’s CSRIC committee that was responsible for producing the Anti-Bot Code of Conduct for Internet Service Providers (the ABCs for ISPs), a voluntary industry code to help reduce end-user bots. At M3AAWG, he was key in developing the organization’s Internet Service Providers Closed Colloquium, a M3AAWG committee of international network operators. 

Professionally, Mr. O’Reirdan is a Comcast Engineering Fellow with over 18 years of experience in the ISP field and with public facing messaging platforms.  He has served on executive advisory boards for several major computer vendors and is active in other industry organizations.

 

Suresh Ramasubramanian M3AAWG Member
(IBM, Architect, Antispam and Compliance at IBM's SmartCloud iNotes)

Suresh Ramasubramanian provides strategic vision and leadership on antispam and cybersecurity, and is currently Architect, Antispam and Compliance at IBM's SmartCloud iNotes division. He has been actively lobbying for realistic solutions to spam at the technological, legislative and policy levels since 1998. He is coordinator of the anti-spam NGO APCAUCE, and serves on the fellowships committee of APRICOT, the largest network operators conference in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr. Ramasubramanian has worked on a field research project on cybersecurity for developing countries for the ITU, in association with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and has earlier written research papers on spam for the OECD Anti-Spam Toolkit and for UNDP/APDIP. He has been a regular media spokesman on these issues, being widely interviewed and quoted over the past several years in publications including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Foreign Policy Magazine, BusinessWeek, the Washington Post, Wired and PC Magazine.  BusinessWeek magazine profiled him as #19 in its 2002 list of top 25 e-business professionals.

 

Joe St Sauver, Ph.D., M3AAWG Senior Technical Advisor

Dr. Joe St Sauver serves as manager for Internet2's Nationwide Security Programs and as manager for InCommon's SSL and PKI Certificate Programs under contract through the University of Oregon. He is also a senior technical advisor to M3AAWG.  Dr. St Sauver routinely presents on cyber security and abuse-related issues at national and international events, including recently on topics related to SSL/TLS and PKI security issues, cloud computing security, security policy issues, physical security, malware analysis, disaster recovery and business continuity planning, IPv6 and security, securing DNS and DNSSEC, and fastflux Web hosting.  He also has presented on cyber war, cyber terrorism and cyber espionage; the insider threat; psychological decision-making heuristics and their impact on anti-spam activities; the compatibility of security and privacy; cyber infrastructure architectures, security and advanced applications; and spam, domain names and registrars. Kevin Sullivan, M3AAWG Member
(Microsoft, Principal Security Strategist, Microsoft Global Security Strategy and Diplomacy team)

Kevin Sullivan is a Principal Security Strategist with Microsoft’s Global Security Strategy and Diplomacy team, part of Trustworthy Computing, which focuses on driving strategic change, both within Microsoft and externally, to advance security and resiliency. Mr. Sullivan leads the group’s efforts on Internet threat reduction, strategic pilots and critical infrastructure protection. He participates in several industry committees focused on technology and policy issues. Prior to joining Microsoft, Mr. Sullivan specialized in system and network design for government, academic and private sector organizations. Kevin earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Science from Northeastern University.

 

Jerry Upton, M3AAWG Executive Director

Jerry Upton has served as M3AAWG Executive Director since the organization's founding in 2004. Previously, in his more than twenty years experience at Motorola, he held executive positions in standards, software and mobile phone products, alliance management and business development. Mr. Upton was also the founding Chairman of the Open Mobile Alliance, a mobile standardization forum, and he also currently serves as the Chair of a TIA Engineering Committee.
