Home Events Ensuring Your Identity Is Defined in Your Zoom Profile As Required For M3AAWG Virtual Sessions

Because M3AAWG is a trusted community and sessions are limited to registered participants, you need to identify yourself to participate in Zoom video calls. (The identification provided by a Zoom login is self-asserted, but still serves important purposes.)

To do so, go to https://zoom.us and sign in. You have several options for doing so:

  • You can create a free Zoom account with its own username and password.
  • Zoom also supports federated authentication, so Zoom will trust other organizations to "vouch" for your identity.
(This means that you don't need to create a Zoom-specific account unless you'd prefer to do so)

    • Note: sign in with SSO is only for people from companies who've have arranged to have Zoom accounts for their employees.
    • For the purpose of this example, we'll sign in with Google. Note that Zoom does NOT get access to your Google account contents, Google just shares your identity and some other details with Zoom. That allows them to (loosely) identity you, and gives you the ability to save things like your preferences between sessions. See the Zoom Privacy Policy for more details.

Once you've logged in, select Profile in the menu over on the left hand side. This will let you edit your profile by clicking on Edit on the right hand side:

Once you've selected Edit, you'll be able to fill in your details.

M3AAWG's minimum requirement is that you provide at least the First Name, Last Name and Company Name fields.

We encourage you to also consider adding your Department, Job Title, and a picture of yourself.

After you've entered your details, hit Save Changes.

When attending a M3AAWG session after doing this -- assuming you're logged in to your Zoom account -- your name will be associated with your presence, as required by M3AAWG.

If you have any questions or feedback on this requirement or this document, please feel free to contact the Moderator in your session or  Amy Cadagin, M3AAWG Executive Director, at amy@m3aawg.org
