Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks have been trending upwards for years, getting larger, more frequent and more sophisticated. But what is a DDoS attack? How are they launched? What are the motivations? What do today's DDoS attacks look like? In this session we will take a look at how DDoS attacks have developed, what the common types are and how they work, and what the current state of the Union for DDoS is, both in terms of the latest attack types, sizes and provenances, as well as a quick review of the techniques available to defeat them.
