DESTINATION INFORMATION:

LISBON

The capital of Portugal since its conquest from the Moors in 1147, Lisbon is a legendary city with over 20 centuries of History. Is one of the world's great historical cities, with characteristic and surprising sights and cultural treasures, is a friendly city with a cosmopolitan population. Filled with an ancient history and a contemporary life style, Lisbon perfectly combines the old and the new. However, what makes it attractive is the fact that, despite being very much a multicultural 21st century metropolis, Lisbon retains a foot in the past and a remarkably provincial feel. Small markets still abound, frequented by traditionally dressed women bearing their load on their head, wood- interior trams still rattle up unfeasibly steep slopes and people from all walks of life chatter in unpretentious local bars and cafes.

WEATHER FORECAST

Lisbon enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Among all the metropolises in Europe, it has the warmest winters, with average temperatures 15 °C (59 °F) during the day and 8 °C (46 °F) at night in the period from December to February. The typical summer's season lasts about six months, from May to October, although also in November, March and April temperatures sometimes reach around 20 °C (68.0 °F).

DOWNTOWN AREA

The heart of the city is the Baixa (Downtown) or city centre; this area of the city is being considered for UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The Baixa is organized in a grid system and a network of squares built after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, which leveled a great portion of the medieval city.

Avenida da Liberdade – one of the most important boulevards of the city and definitely the most beautiful along this boulevard. Here we can find the brand stores such as Prada, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, or admire the traditional and unique Portuguese sidewalks as well as some of the most beautiful urban palaces from the 18th Century.

Praça dos Restauradores – at the end of Avenida da Liberdade we will find this square. On the right hand side it is located one of the main Tourism Offices and the Tourism Police Station. Also on the right, it is located one of the “must-do” in Lisbon, the Gloria Lift that will lead you to the upper town, Bairro Alto. On the left-hand side, we can see the Hard Rock Café and Rua Portas de Santo Antao, where we find traditional Portuguese restaurants and Lisbon Coliseum, which hosts some major events in the city.

Santa Catarina (or Adamastor) Viewpoint – is one of the liveliest viewpoints in the city. It has a nice balcony over the Bica Quarter and the Tejo River.Sao Pedro de Alcantara Viewpoint – you may take a ride on the Gloria Lift from Restauradores Square and you will get to the wonderful viewpoint facing the downtown area and the city centre.

Principe Real Garden – this is one of the most lively gardens in town where are often lead some fairs, exhibitions, markets or other events.
